You could commission a length of fabric with which to make your own beautiful home accessory or have an existing product adapted to your specific requirements. My beautiful bespoke cloth is woven using heritage techniques in small runs at hand loom width in either a 3.5 metre or a 7 metre length. There are lots of colours and patterns available – you could choose one that you’ve seen in my shop or we can work on a new one together.
Table napkins are sold in sets of six and tea towels in sets of eight can be woven in sets of four or seven. Table runners and throws are created singly. If your commission is based on existing products then the cost may be similar to stock items.
Orders for bags and gifts are dependent on smaller material pieces I have available. Follow me on Social Media or sign up to my newsletter to see what’s in progress on the loom and always ask if you see anything that you like.
Unpacking a parcel of handwoven fabric is a thrill I’d love you to experience. Many customers remark on the softness and drape of the cloth and the harmony of the colours often takes people by surprise. Commissioning and owning handcrafted cloth personal to you is an experience to be enjoyed from start to finish and long into the future.
I look forward to hearing from you.
We can communicate either face to face or over email, when we’ll discuss your ideas, your inspiration and what colours you prefer. A photograph of the room you plan to use the material in is often a good start, and an idea of what the fabric is going to be used for as this affects how I create it. I work in both matte and mercerised (with a slight sheen) organic cotton The finer yarn I use is a 40% linen 60% cotton mix which has a beautiful handle with the artisanal quality of flax.
I’ll work from the initial briefing and develop a fabric taking into account weave structure and the interplay of colour as threads in the design overlap.
Once we’re both satisfied with the plan, a 50% deposit to cover the purchase of yarn is required. It takes approximately a month to complete a commission and I can give you an idea of when your piece will be ready depending on how full my order book is at the time of confirmation.
When the piece has been woven and taken off the loom it will be washed and hand finished so that it is ready to use as soon as it arrives with you. I can offer guidance on how to work with handwoven fabric if required. Final payment is required before dispatch/on receipt of fabric
The unique nature of creating handwoven textiles means it’s hard to give a general price guide. The length of time needed to produce these pieces will depend on the complexity of the design chosen, the number of colour changes and the fineness of the thread. It is also important to factor in design time and delivery of the yarn required from the dyer and UK Distributor. Consider the cost of having a seamstress sew your chosen end product too, be it for cushions, lampshades or curtains for basins or worktops.
